Historically, Lapis Lazuli has long been revered as a symbol of royalty, honor and spiritual enlightenment and thus has been used by healers, priests, and royalty... for power, wisdom, and to stimulate psychic abilities and inner vision. It represents universal truth. Lapis is said to quickly releases stress, allowing for peace and serenity. It has often bene called the 'wisdom keeper'.

It is also the stone of true, soul-felt friendship.

Ancient egyptians used it to create blue cosmetics. The vibrant color of Lapis was symbolic of the Egyptian belief in the eternal life and was extensively used in religious artifacts.

Artists, like Michaelangelo, ground the stone to make ultramarine, a much revered colour in those days.

In the early Christian tradition, lapis lazuli was associated with the Virgin Mary; her garments are often portrayed in blue, which is "the colour of an empress". Scholars also believe that mentions of sapphire in the bible may have referred to Lapis Lazuli, as sapphire was not known before the Roman Empire.
