Sandalwood is slow-growing wood and it is one of the most expensive woods in the world. It is indigenous to Southeast Asia, also cultivated in Hawaii and Australia. 

Historically, it was used for conditions such as cancer, wounds, digestive tract problems, fluid retention, and many others.
Ayurvedic medicine classifies Sandalwood as cooling, aphrodisiac, and anti-inflammatory.

Sandalwood’s has been used in India as a holy incense since the beginning of time. Sandalwood was never attacked by termites, which may have led to its reputation as a protective wood. The scent is believed to be one of the most pleasing to the gods and as such the wood is carved into prayer beads, ground into powder to make paste for anointing the forehead, and reverently placed on funeral pyres. 

Sandalwood has a number of magical applications, and they tend to vary depending on which religious group. In many traditions of modern Paganism, it is associated with healing and purification.
In American folk magick, the wood chips are added to mojo bags for safety, security, and peace of mind.
In Islam, it is used as a perfume and burnt to cleanse and disinfect rooms as well as a preparing a room for worship. 

In the west, sandalwood has its holy associations carried over into ceremonial magick. It is popular in blended incense and combines well with the sacred resins Frankincense and Myrrh. Sandalwood is considered to have a very high vibration and said to be ideal for devotional and angelic magic and used in ritual formulas for purification, consecration, relaxation, and peace. It's correspondence is the moon and water, connecting Above and Below and said to make wishes come true.

A blend of Sandalwood and Frankincense is used for consecrating ritual tools. This formula is supposedly very inviting to angels.
